about

In 2020 I received treatment for stage 3 breast cancer. During this time I had recurring dreams that I was dressed in black from head to toe and was in a black room. Those dreams inspired this song which I wrote as a conversation with Donn, the Celtic Dark Lord of death. Produced by Roger Bashew, with Tin Whistle by Bev Whelan and Accordion by Leon Oosthuizen.

lyrics

To me to my house, ye all must come
this says the Dark Lord to all and one,
but I said, 'show me how to dance this tune,
the beat's uneven, the ending comes too soon'

I'm dressed in black lace from head to toe,
pinioned in your arms, rock to and fro,
wish I could fly free, dress up in vibrant hues,
let's take a rain cheque, some day I'll dance with you
ahh
Says the Dark Lord 'I grant you stay, we'll conclude this another day, by your side I wait in quiet repose, but when I beckon, to my house, you'll surely go'

'Cos there are jewels I'd not seen before
and now I've held them, I long for more,
but still you lead me, 'round a darkened room,
let's ease this tempo, it's over all too soon,

ahh
Tell me Dark Lord 'that I can stay, that we'll do this another day,
though I know you wait in quiet repose,
'when I beckon, to my house, you'll surely go'
